A savory cheesesteak piled high with caramelized onions and bell peppers, all cradled in golden, toasty garlic Parmesan bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf artisan bread (sourdough or ciabatta)
  • 3 tablespoons butter (softened)
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh parsley (chopped, optional)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
  • 1 pound thinly sliced ribeye steak or ground beef
  • 1 medium onion (thinly sliced)
  • 1 green or yellow bell pepper (thinly sliced)
  • 4 slices provolone cheese
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, mix softened butter, minced garlic, Parmesan cheese, and chopped parsley until well combined.
  3. Slice the artisan bread in half horizontally and spread the garlic Parmesan mixture evenly over both halves. Toast in the preheated oven for about 5-7 minutes until golden and crisp.
  4. Meanwhile, heat olive oil or butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced ribeye steak (or ground beef), seasoning with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce if using. Cook until browned, about 3-4 minutes.
  5. Add the onions and bell peppers to one side of the skillet, sautéing until they soften and caramelize, about 5 minutes. Mix everything together.
  6. Place the provolone cheese slices on top of the cooked steak and veggies, cover the skillet to allow the cheese to melt, approximately 2-3 minutes.
  7. Spread the filling on the bottom half of your toasted bread and place the top half over the filling. Slice into individual servings and serve immediately.

Notes

If you have leftovers, wrap well and store in the fridge or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat in the oven for best texture.
