A comforting and creamy bowl of shrimp and grits that captures the essence of Southern hospitality.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup stone-ground grits
  • 4 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter (divided)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp paprika or Cajun seasoning

Instructions

  1. In a medium pot, bring the low-sodium chicken broth to a rolling boil.
  2. Gradually whisk in the stone-ground grits, stirring continuously.
  3. Reduce the heat to low, cover partially, and let cook for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Once creamy, stir in the heavy cream and 4 tablespoons of butter. Season generously with salt and pepper.
  5. In a skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat and sauté the minced garlic for 1 minute until fragrant.
  6. Add the seasoned shrimp and cook until pink and opaque, about 3-4 minutes.
  7. Serve the creamy grits topped with sautéed shrimp and garnish with chopped green onions.

Notes

For a lighter version, replace heavy cream with almond milk or coconut milk.
