Meatball Mixture

Sauce and Garnish

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking sheet with olive oil.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Mix until everything is evenly incorporated.

Forming Meatballs

  • Take a small amount of the meatball mixture and flatten it in the palm of your hand.
  • Place about 1 tablespoon of shredded mozzarella cheese in the center. Carefully form the meat around the cheese, sealing it inside.
  • Roll the meatball into a smooth ball and place it on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining mixture.

Baking

  • Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  • When you cut into one, you should see the gooey mozzarella center!

Serving

  • While the meatballs are baking, heat the marinara sauce in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the red pepper flakes if using and let it simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  • Once the meatballs are baked, serve them with the marinara sauce. Spoon some of the sauce over the meatballs, and garnish with fresh basil leaves.
  • For an extra indulgent meal, serve with spaghetti or enjoy them as is for a delicious appetizer.

Notes

To enhance the flavors, consider adding fresh herbs like parsley or thyme to the meat mixture. For a crunchier exterior, broil the meatballs for the last 2-3 minutes of baking. You can also experiment with different types of cheese—try using provolone or cheddar.
