  • 2 leaves basil leaves Infuses the sauce with herbal notes.

For the Candied Pecans

  • 1 cup chopped pecans Adds texture and a nutty flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon butter Used to caramelize the pecans.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).
  • Carefully remove the top layer of rind from the brie cheese and place it on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Making the Blackberry Sauce

  • Combine blackberries, 1/4 cup of sugar, water, a pinch of salt, and balsamic vinegar in a medium saucepan.
  • Lightly mash the mixture to release the juices and cook over medium-high heat for about 10 minutes, until thickened.
  • Add basil leaves to the sauce and let steep for approximately 10 minutes, then remove and discard them.

Preparing the Candied Pecans

  • Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and toast the chopped pecans until fragrant.
  • Sprinkle in the remaining sugar and butter, stirring frequently until the sugar melts and coats the pecans.
  • Remove from heat and spread the pecans onto a plate to cool.

Baking the Brie

  • Drizzle the warmed brie with the blackberry sauce, covering it well.
  • Top with the candied pecans and place in the preheated oven, baking for about 5-7 minutes until warmed through.
  • Serve immediately with an assortment of crackers.

Notes

For extra sweetness, drizzle honey over the brie after baking. For a spicy twist, add crushed red pepper flakes. Substitute blackberries with raspberries or blueberries for variation.
