  • 1/2 pound cauliflower florets tender yet crisp
  • 1 small yellow onion finely diced, adding a sweet flavor
  • 3 cloves garlic minced, to elevate the taste

Meat

  • 12 ounces smoked sausage sliced into 1-inch rounds, providing heartiness

Sauce

  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened, to create the base of the sauce
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise or plain yogurt or sour cream adding a creamy texture
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard for a touch of zest
  • Salt and fresh ground black pepper to taste, enhancing overall flavor

Cheese

  • 2 cups shredded Mexican blend cheese divided, for that cheesy pull

Cooking Oil

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil for sautéing

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F and lightly grease a 9×13 baking dish.
  • In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add the broccoli and cauliflower florets and cook for 3 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  • In a skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Sauté the diced onions for 2 minutes, then add the minced garlic and cook for another 15 seconds.
  • Add the smoked sausage slices to the skillet and cook until nicely browned.

Mixing

  • In the baking dish, combine the sautéed vegetables and sausage mixture.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, mayonnaise (or yogurt/sour cream), 1 cup of shredded cheese, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Mix well until smooth.
  • Pour the creamy mixture over the vegetables and sausage in the baking dish and stir until everything is well combined.
  • Top with the remaining cup of shredded cheese.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and lightly golden.
  • Serve and enjoy the delightful flavors!

Notes

For an added depth of flavor, consider using smoked cheddar cheese. You can also add vegetables like bell peppers or spinach for added nutrition. Topping with breadcrumbs can provide a pleasant crunch.
