Ingredients
  

For the Cupcakes

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (50g)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted (115g)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar (150g)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed (100g)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup whole milk (120ml)
  • 1/2 cup hot coffee (or hot water, 120ml)

For the Frosting

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (230g)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (240g)
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (65g)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (120ml)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt

For Garnish (Optional)

  • Mini chocolate chips
  • White chocolate curls

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 12-cup muffin pan by lining it with cupcake liners.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a large bowl, combine melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar, and beat until smooth.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then stir in vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with whole milk and hot coffee, mixing until just combined.
  • Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full.

Baking

  • Bake the cupcakes for 18-22 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cupcakes to cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting

  • Beat the softened butter with powdered sugar and cocoa powder in a medium bowl until smooth.
  • Gradually add in heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt, beating until the frosting is light and fluffy.
  • Spread the frosting on each cooled cupcake and garnish with chocolate shavings, mini chocolate chips, or white chocolate curls if desired.
