Cinnamon Swirl Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar To enhance the sweetness
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon For that signature swirl
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted To bind the swirl together

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and sugar until well combined.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the egg, buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing.

Cinnamon Swirl

  • In a small bowl, combine the swirl sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter to create a thick paste.
  • Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan, drizzle half of the cinnamon mixture over it, then pour the rest of the batter and swirl the remaining cinnamon mixture on top.
  • Use a knife or skewer to create a gentle swirl in the batter.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature ingredients. Optional mix-ins include chopped nuts or dried fruits. For added moisture, applesauce can replace some buttermilk.
