Ingredients

For the fries

  • 1 batch homemade French Fries (or a 28 oz. bag of frozen fries) You can choose homemade or frozen for convenience.
  • 1 cup vegetable oil For frying the fries.

For the topping

  • 6 oz cheese curds (or cubed mozzarella cheese) Squeaky cheese curds are traditional.
  • 1 batch homemade brown gravy (or use a packet) Gravy can be homemade or store-bought.

Instructions

Preparation of Fries

  • If opting for homemade, follow your favorite French fry recipe. If using frozen fries, bake them according to the package instructions or fry them at 300°F until just cooked. Then, increase the heat to 400°F and fry until golden and crispy.

Adding Cheese and Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F. Once the fries are cooked, arrange them on a baking sheet and sprinkle the cheese curds over the fries. Bake for about 10-15 minutes, until the cheese is melted.

Preparation of Gravy

  • While fries and cheese bake, prepare the gravy by following a simple homemade recipe or using a packet as directed.

Assembly

  • Drizzle the hot gravy generously over the fries and melted cheese. Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

Consider adding sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions, or crispy bacon for extra flavor. Try baking the fries for a healthier twist.
