  • 1 lb ground beef savory and rich
  • 4 medium potatoes sliced thin for a creamy, tender base
  • 1 medium onion chopped, adding depth and sweetness
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese gooey and indulgent
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup bringing a comforting creaminess
  • 1 cup milk for added richness
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder aromatic and flavorful
  • to taste salt for perfect seasoning

  • optional chopped green onions for garnish, adding a pop of color and freshness

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef along with the chopped onions until the meat is cooked through, and the onions are tender. Drain any excess fat.
  • In a large bowl, blend the cream of mushroom soup, milk, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

Layering and Baking

  • Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish and add half of the sliced potatoes to the bottom.
  • Layer half of the beef mixture on top of the potatoes, followed by half of the shredded cheese.
  • Repeat the layers, then pour the soup mixture evenly over the top.
  • Cover with foil and bake for one hour.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes for the cheese to brown.

Notes

For healthier alternatives, consider lean ground turkey or Greek yogurt. You can also add vegetables like spinach or bell peppers. This casserole can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated, or frozen for up to three months before baking.
