Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast in a large bowl. Allow to sit undisturbed for about five minutes until foamy.
  • Add olive oil, flour, and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
  • Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead for about five minutes until smooth.
  • Place dough in a greased bowl and cover it with a towel or plastic wrap. Set aside.

Rising

  • Allow the dough to rise for about an hour or until it doubles in size.
  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Baking

  • Punch down the risen dough and transfer it to a greased baking sheet. Press it out to fill the sheet.
  • Create dimples in the dough with your fingertips and drizzle with olive oil.
  • Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  • Let it cool slightly before slicing and serving warm.

Notes

Focaccia can be prepared quickly or allowed to develop deeper flavors with a slow rise. Allow enough time for proper rising and experiment with flavors and toppings.
