For Assembly

Instructions

Prepare the Mushrooms

  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the olive oil and butter. Allow the butter to melt fully.
  • Once melted, add the sliced mushrooms, salt, and ground black pepper. Stir to coat the mushrooms evenly.
  • Cook the mushrooms for about five minutes until softened. Add the Worcestershire sauce and continue cooking for another five minutes.
  • Remove from heat and transfer mushrooms to a plate to cool. Reserve better-looking pieces.

Prepare the Cheese Mixture

  • In a mixing bowl, combine mayonnaise, sour cream, and melted butter. Whisk until smooth.
  • Add minced garlic, dried onion flakes, and ground black pepper. Stir well.
  • Gently fold in the grated cheeses and sliced green onions until combined.

Broil the Bread

  • Preheat your oven’s broiler. Arrange sourdough slices on a large sheet pan.
  • Broil for 2-3 minutes until lightly browned, then flip and toast the other side for another 2-3 minutes.

Assemble and Broil Toasts

  • Allow toasted bread to cool slightly. Fold the cooled mushrooms (not the reserved pieces) into the cheese mixture.
  • Spread the cheese mixture generously over each toast and top with reserved mushroom slices.
  • Return to the oven and broil until cheese is bubbly and golden, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Garnish with additional green onions and serve immediately.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a splash of truffle oil. For a spicier kick, sprinkle crushed red pepper flakes on top. You can use gluten-free bread or substitute cheeses as desired.
