Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, cream together unsalted butter and powdered sugar until smooth and creamy.
  • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well blended.
  • Sift together all-purpose flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt; gradually mix into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  • Roll the dough to about 1/4-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface and cut into heart shapes.
  • Place cookies on a lined baking sheet and bake for 8–10 minutes until the edges are golden brown.
  • Cool completely on a wire rack.

Royal Icing Preparation

  • Beat egg whites with powdered sugar and lemon juice until stiff peaks form.
  • Pipe the royal icing onto each cookie, covering generously.
  • Once the icing is set, decorate with fondant flowers.

Notes

Ensure butter is soft but not melted. Chill dough before cutting to maintain shape while baking. Let cookies cool before icing to prevent melting.
