Sauce Ingredients

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a medium-sized bowl, combine the ground beef, panko bread crumbs, chopped parsley, allspice, nutmeg, finely chopped onion, garlic powder, black pepper, salt, and one egg.
  • Mix the ingredients until well combined, using your hands for the best mix.
  • Roll the mixture into approximately 12 large meatballs or 20 smaller ones.

Cooking Meatballs

  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil and one tablespoon of butter over medium heat.
  • Add the meatballs carefully and cook them, turning continuously until browned on all sides and thoroughly cooked through.
  • Transfer the meatballs to a plate and cover with foil to keep warm.

Making the Sauce

  • In the same skillet, add 4 tablespoons of butter and flour, whisking until the mixture turns light brown to create a roux.
  • Gradually stir in the beef broth and heavy cream, mixing thoroughly to avoid lumps.
  • Add the Worcestershire sauce and Dijon mustard, bringing the mixture to a gentle simmer.
  • Allow the sauce to thicken for about 5-7 minutes, tasting and adding salt and pepper as desired.
  • Add the meatballs back to the skillet and let them simmer in the sauce for another 1-2 minutes.

Serving

  • Serve the Heavenly Swedish Meatballs over egg noodles or rice.

Notes

Prepare the meatball mixture ahead of time and refrigerate it until ready to cook. For gourmet flair, add a splash of fresh lemon juice or diced chives to the sauce.
