Preparation

  • Toss the pitted and halved cherries into a medium bowl with 1/4 cup of granulated sugar. Let them sit for about 30 minutes to macerate.
  • In a separate mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, whole milk, the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Whisk until the sugar is fully dissolved.

Mixing

  • Gently fold the cherry mixture into the cream mixture until thoroughly combined.

Churning

  • Pour the mixture into your ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions until it reaches a soft-serve consistency, about 20-30 minutes.

Freezing

  • Transfer the ice cream to a lidded container and place it in the freezer for at least four hours to firm up.

Notes
