Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup white granulated sugar for cake
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder for cake
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted for added richness
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Fudge sauce ingredients

  • 1/2 cup white granulated sugar for fudge sauce
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder for fudge sauce
  • 1-1/4 cups boiling water

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Lightly grease a 9-inch square baking pan.
  • Pre-boil water in a kettle.

Mixing Ingredients

  • In a large bowl, combine 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Whisk thoroughly.
  • Add milk, melted butter, and vanilla to the dry mixture, whisk until smooth.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.

Creating Fudge Sauce

  • Mix the remaining sugars and cocoa powder in a bowl and sprinkle over the cake batter.
  • Slowly pour boiling water over the top without stirring.

Baking

  • Bake for 35 minutes or until the center is almost set.
  • Allow to cool for 15 minutes before serving.

Serving

  • Serve warm with a scoop of ice cream or whipped cream and spoon fudge sauce over each serving.

Notes

For an enhanced flavor, consider adding espresso powder or nuts. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
