Ingredients
  

For the Cabbage

  • 1 small head cabbage (cut into thick slices) Can use green, savoy, or red cabbage

For the Filling

  • 1.5 lbs ground beef (or ground turkey for a lighter option) Ground turkey reduces calories
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika Adds a smoky flavor
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce Enhances the meat flavor
  • 0.5 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your favorite) Add during broiling
  • 2 tbsp olive oil For brushing the cabbage
  • 1 egg (optional, for binding) Optional for added binding

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Slice the cabbage into 1/2 inch thick rounds, resembling large cabbage steaks.
  • Brush both sides of the cabbage slices with olive oil.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef (or turkey), finely chopped onions, minced garlic, salt, pepper, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce, and the egg (if using). Mix thoroughly.
  • Form compact patties from the meat mixture.

Cooking

  • Press the patties onto the cabbage slices.
  • Arrange the cabbage burgers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake for approximately 25 minutes until the cabbage is tender and the meat is cooked through.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheese on top of each patty and broil for an additional 3-5 minutes until melted.

Serving

  • Serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs or a drizzle of your favorite sauce.

Notes

Consider marinating the meat overnight for extra flavor. You can add other veggies to the meat mixture or try different cheeses.
