Ingredients

Cabbage Base

  • 1 head green cabbage, cut into 1-inch slices

Burger Filling

  • 1 lb lean ground beef Can substitute with ground turkey for a lighter option.
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce (or ketchup)
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese (mozzarella, Monterey Jack), divided
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp red chili pepper flakes Adjust to taste for more heat.
  • 1 tsp grated garlic
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped parsley

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange the slices of cabbage on a baking sheet and brush each slice lightly with oil. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Roast the cabbage slices in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes, or until slightly tender and caramelized.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef with garlic, green onion, parsley, red chili flakes, half of the shredded cheese, salt, and pepper. Mix well and shape into four equal patties.

Assembly and Baking

  • Remove the roasted cabbage from the oven. Top each cabbage slice with tomato sauce, additional cheese, a beef patty, and more cheese.
  • Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the patties are cooked through.
  • Serve hot.

Notes

To ensure optimal flavor, consider using a leaner cut of beef or a turkey substitute. Experiment with spices for added flavor and let the beef patties rest for juiciness after baking.
