Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
  • In a separate bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Mix in the vanilla extract and pink food coloring.
  • Gradually alternate adding the dry ingredient mixture and buttermilk, starting and ending with dry ingredients.
  • Stir in the white vinegar.
  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.

Baking

  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cakes cool completely on a wire rack before frosting.

Frosting

  • Beat the softened cream cheese and butter together until smooth.
  • Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, beating until fluffy.
  • Once the cakes are cool, frost them generously.

Notes

Use room temperature ingredients for optimal mixing. Don’t overmix the batter to prevent a dense cake. Experiment with food coloring for your desired shade. Adjust sweetness by using lower-sugar options for frosting if needed.
