Ingredients

Cheese Filling

  • 16 oz 2 blocks (8 oz each) Pepper Jack cheese, shredded
  • 2-3 jalapeños, diced

Breading

  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 cups bread crumbs
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

For Frying

  • Oil for frying

Instructions

Preparation

  • Combine the shredded Pepper Jack cheese and diced jalapeños in a mixing bowl.
  • Shape the cheese mixture into balls that are about 1 1/2 inches in diameter and squeeze tightly to hold their shape.
  • Place the balls on a cookie sheet and freeze them for roughly 30 minutes.

Coating

  • Preheat your deep fryer to 350°F (175°C). Set up three bowls: one with flour, the second with a whisked egg and milk, and the third with seasoned bread crumbs.
  • Coat each frozen ball in flour first, dip in the egg mixture, and finally roll in the seasoned bread crumbs.

Frying

  • Fry the coated cheese balls in batches for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Drain the fried bites on paper towels.
  • Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

Consider adding diced onions or garlic to the cheese mixture for enhanced flavor. For an even crunchier coating, double-dip in egg and breadcrumbs. Freeze leftovers up to 3 months and reheat in an oven or air fryer.
