Prepare the Cupcakes

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients in three parts, alternating with the buttermilk and milk, starting and ending with dry ingredients.
  • Fold in the salted caramel sauce until just combined.
  • Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full.
  • Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool in the tin for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Prepare the Frosting

  • Beat the softened butter, powdered sugar, salted caramel sauce, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth and creamy.
  • Adjust the consistency with heavy cream as needed.

Frost the Cupcakes

  • Once the cupcakes have cooled completely, frost them generously with the caramel frosting.
  • Drizzle additional salted caramel sauce and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
