Chocolate Mousse Layers

  • 1.5 cups dark chocolate, chopped Deeply aromatic and bittersweet

Cake Base

  • 1 package chocolate cake mix Can use homemade cake if preferred
  • 3 large eggs Provides structure
  • 1/2 cup water Ensures a moist cake
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil Keeps the cake tender
  • 1/2 cup sour cream Adds subtle tang

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9-inch round cake pan.
  • Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to package instructions and pour into the prepared cake pan.
  • Bake for about 25-30 minutes. Use a toothpick to check for doneness.

Mousse Layers

  • In a saucepan, heat 1/2 cup of heavy cream over low heat until hot but not boiling.
  • Divide dark, milk, and white chocolate into three bowls and pour hot cream over each. Stir gently until smooth.
  • Add vanilla extract and salt to each bowl, then allow to cool slightly.
  • Whip the remaining 1 1/2 cups of heavy cream with powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
  • Gently fold whipped cream into each chocolate mixture.

Assembly

  • Once the cake has cooled, slice it in half horizontally to create two layers.
  • Place the bottom layer on a platter and spread dark chocolate mousse over it.
  • Add the second layer of cake and spread milk chocolate mousse on top.
  • Finish with a layer of white chocolate mousse.
  • Refrigerate for at least 4 hours before serving.

Notes

For the best results, use high-quality chocolate and monitor cream whipping closely. Chill the torte adequately for best texture.
